“About that Road”, Acrylic 18 x 24, on Gallery Wrapped canvas.
SOLD

is in honor of the “down-dropped block” at Kilauea. Many of us have driven on that dropped down bit of road and stood at the vanished overlook into a different Halemaumau crater, and this makes for deep thoughts as our ephemeral natures brush up against geologic time. The old road is visible in the left/middle of the painting if you zoom in. This painting is based on visit in early December 2021. I highly recommend binoculars if you visit this spot!

The collapse occurred in 2018. To Quote the USGS https://volcanoes.usgs.gov/vsc/file_mngr/file-204/367.full.pdf "A total of 62 collapse events occurred between May and early August."

 "Windy Day on Ali'i Drive"
Acrylic 9 x 12

Sold

Story: I set up on the pier and painted as the daily flow of activity and characters moved around me. Such a contrast between the idyllic scene and the sometimes frenetic human activity!

"High Surf and Artists at Nelha"
Acrylic on gallery wrap
10 x 16

Story: The artists' group "Painting out There" meets weekly and it has been a pleasure and privilege to paint with them. On this day enormous surf was hitting the lava shore outside this protected pond at Wawaloli park.

This painting became a different painting!

Last weekend I was with my family at the volcano. We had hiked in to see the lava the night before and I was alone in wanting to get up to watch the sunrise. The rest woke gradually and enjoyed a cozy breakfast by the fire. I set out to the Kilauea overlook in the dark but missed the glow by minutes. Wet and windy but lovely as it cleared. The painting is now in progress - just a bit more to do….

Keauhou #2 The Hiding Place , Acrylic on archival canvas board, 11 x 14

(sold)

I've been working on this Keauhou painting for several weeks after joining the "Painting out There" group there and watching everyone else seem to finish in one sitting! If you climb the seawall and walk in under the Kiawe trees, there is a lovely secret hiding place. Well maybe not so secret - quite a few people and birds came by while I was there, but still a lovely refuge in such a busy place!
